Clinical authority and active physician involvement
Texas NPs practice within their licensed role, population focus, education, and competence. Medical aspects of care require appropriate physician delegation; prescribing drugs and devices in a medical spa also requires prescriptive authority and a written prescriptive authority agreement.
Our practice supports this framework with active physician participation, documented reviews, clear treatment protocols, and ongoing consultation. A signed agreement is the starting point for clinical oversight, not a substitute for it.
What the arrangement covers
Prescriptive authority
Prescriptive authority must cover the prescription drugs and devices ordered for your services, within your licensed scope and the physician’s delegation.
Good faith examinations
Patient evaluations and treatment planning must fit your licensed role, population focus, competence, and the applicable physician delegation.
Supervising other staff
Team leadership follows documented clinical responsibilities, each clinician’s scope, and physician delegation. It does not transfer the physician’s responsibility for delegated medical acts.
Separate ownership from clinical authority
A business ownership interest does not expand an NP’s clinical scope or prescribing authority. A medical spa’s clinical entity, management services, fees, and decision-making responsibilities need review under Texas law. An MSO may support administrative operations, while clinical decisions remain with the appropriately authorized professionals. Have Texas healthcare counsel evaluate the specific structure before opening or changing ownership.

Our active supervision standard
Our service includes 100% chart review and at least 10% of all good faith exams personally performed by the active supervising physician, alongside on-site visits, hands-on training, skills verification, and a documented supervision work ledger.
These are our practice’s service commitments. Each clinician remains responsible for their own license, scope, and professional judgment.

Texas requirements apply even if you practiced independently elsewhere. Medical aspects of care require an appropriate physician delegation framework. Prescribing in a medical spa requires the relevant prescriptive authority and agreement, within your licensed role and population focus.
Can I own the med spa?
Does my delegating physician need to be on site?
Availability depends on the services, applicable rules, and supervision plan. Our service includes on-site visits and hands-on training as well as ongoing consultation; remote communication does not replace active physician involvement.
Can one physician cover multiple practices?
Multiple locations require a supervision plan that meets availability, quality review, and applicable delegation limits. Prescriptive delegation has its own limits and exceptions. We assess physician capacity, staff, services, and overlapping hours before adding a location.
